September is Recovery Month, and I absolutely love everything this month represents. 💜
For so long, we have talked about addiction by focusing on everything that can go wrong. The losses, the arrests, the broken relationships, the overdoses, the statistics. Those stories are real, and they matter.
But there is another side of this disease that deserves just as much attention.
Recovery.
People are recovering every single day. They are rebuilding relationships, going back to school, starting careers, becoming amazing parents, buying homes, getting driver’s licenses back, repairing credit, showing up for their families, and becoming some of the greatest humans I have ever had the privilege of knowing.
And one of the most beautiful things I see is people reaching behind them and pulling the next person forward.
Someone helps you stand up, and before you know it, you’re reaching back to help someone else.
That’s recovery.
Recovery Month gives us an opportunity to turn up the volume on those stories. Not because recovery is easy, but because recovery is possible.
I have the privilege of seeing what recovery looks like up close. I get to watch people celebrate milestones, accomplish things they once thought were impossible, laugh again, love again, and build lives they are proud of.
Those are the stories I want people to see.
Especially the person who is still struggling. The person who thinks they have gone too far. The family wondering if they will ever get their loved one back. The person sitting somewhere right now who cannot imagine what their life could look like a year from today.
This month is for them too.
Throughout September, I am going to keep celebrating recovery LOUDLY. The stories. The milestones. The victories. And all those beautiful ordinary moments in between.
Because recovery is possible.
And it is absolutely worth celebrating. 💜
Happy Recovery Month to every single person doing the work, one day at a time.
Keep showing the world just how beautiful recovery can look.
